Why offer employee health benefits?
As an employer you know how important it is to the success of your business to attract and keep quality employees. For this reason, many employers choose to offer their employees health insurance benefits. Studies have also shown that healthy employees boost workplace morale and reduce days lost to sick leave.
If you employ between 2-50 people, Texas state law requires that you cannot be turned down for group coverage.

Are there affordable options?
A business must watch its bottom line, of course. In today’s climate, insurance providers have designed a range of ways for employers to offer health coverage at a price that fits the company’s budget. Cost-saving plans, for example, allow the employer to share expenses with the employee or to use a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help employees save tax-free for their own healthcare costs.
What types of plans are available to a small business?
In Texas, the number of options are as big as the state itself. You can offer your employees any type of plan described for individuals on the Texas-Health-Plans site. Please see the plan section for details:
Many providers offer special business categories that allow employee participation as a way of keeping costs down for the company. Or, for more comprehensive coverage, you can often add-on employee benefits—including Dental, Vision, Pharmacy or Life insurance, to suit your company’s needs.

Do I need to have Workers’ Compensation?
Unlike most states, Texas law does not require most private employers to carry Workers’ Compensation insurance. In some instances however, such as businesses that contract with the government, a company may be required to carry Workers’ Comp.
Many companies also choose to carry a policy to reduce their liability. If an employer does not carry Workers´ Compensation insurance, its employee injury cases are more likely to turn into lawsuits.
